This training course is meant for staff who wish to work in the community, supporting people to maintain their independence at home and giving them access to their local community.

Community support work can mean working with people in their own homes, outreach schemes and supported housing, and includes older people, and those with learning disabilities or mental health issues.

The aims of this course are to equip the worker with the tools they will need to provide support in a community setting. It focuses on the attributes required for the role, the skills required and the aims and philosophy of providing individualised support.

The course also covers the different types of work environment that may be encountered and lone working, the types of activities that may be undertaken by the worker; liaising with the multidisciplinary community team; working with vulnerable adults; and record keeping.
